Does Mendeley manage to upload all the PDF notes/highlights you made with XChange Viewer to PDF articles?

Not saving annotations into the document itself is the default behavior, but as you note in your question, the annotations can be added to the document by selecting File->Export PDF With Annotations. To be less frictionless, we would have to make writing the annotations into the document the default, which we don't currently plan to do, as it breaks the collaborative annotation model. I would love to hear where people see the friction arising in their workflow. If you tend to use other applications besides Mendeley to read papers annotated in Mendeley, that suggests that there is an opportunity for us to address a mode of use such that you no longer felt the need to use a third-party reader.

Highlight PDF: All You Need to Know

We don't plan to extend the existing support for PDF in-browser annotation beyond current support for Open Office (OO XML), which we can integrate into the existing Mandela reader application, and which people often rely on. However, with help from the OO XML community, we would be able to produce a new open standard that is compatible with the PDF format and has a rich set of annotations and features that are not possible with PDF in-browser annotation. Question: Should we move from using LaTeX to LaTeX? Answer: I'm not aware of any reason to change LaTeX from PDF in- browser annotation to LaTeX. Question: Is there an API for the PDF annotation format similar to the XMPP metadata schema? Answer: There is, but it's currently being developed and tested in XMPP-to- PDF annotations.
