How can you highlight specific text in a PDF using Preview on a Mac?

Preview.app can’t do editing, only basic annotating and page editing, image editing, but NOT text editing. So what can do text editing for free? LibreOffice Draw (linux+mac+windows) is free and open source, but I don’t personally like it that much. But it will edit PDF text documents fine. Master PDF (Linux+Mac+WIndows) can do editing, will put watermark on your documents in free mode Inkscape, apparently, I would never use that to edit PDFs personally PDFfiller (online) - extremely limiting, but can at least extract text/convert to Docx reliably “enough” if you just need something ONCE What you have to understand is that only licence to preview PDF file became free, PDF editing is still a paid thing. Good, cheap one time purchase PDF editors. Highlight Pdf.online (mac) - is awesome, but slower in opening very very large documents, true pay-once app PDFPen (mac) - can handle big documents, has more features but you pay for new major versions and those come out too often - not really that pay-once Qoppa PDF Studio (Linux+Mac+Windows) Highlight Pdf.online (Windows) - pay once, free updates for 12months, supports ARM TLDR. There’s plenty of free PDF annotation tools/pdf image editing/pdf page editing BUT PDF text editing is pricy, because developers actually have to do continous work so their product can actually edit PDFs well.

PDF documents can be cumbersome to edit, especially when you need to change the text or sign a form. However, working with PDFs is made beyond-easy and highly productive with the right tool.

How to Highlight PDF with minimal effort on your side:

  1. Add the document you want to edit — choose any convenient way to do so.
  2. Type, replace, or delete text anywhere in your PDF.
  3. Improve your text’s clarity by annotating it: add sticky notes, comments, or text blogs; black out or highlight the text.
  4. Add fillable fields (name, date, signature, formulas, etc.) to collect information or signatures from the receiving parties quickly.
  5. Assign each field to a specific recipient and set the filling order as you Highlight PDF.
  6. Prevent third parties from claiming credit for your document by adding a watermark.
  7. Password-protect your PDF with sensitive information.
  8. Notarize documents online or submit your reports.
  9. Save the completed document in any format you need.

Highlight PDF: All You Need to Know

So here is all the above listed for you: 1. LibreOffice Draw — you need license to use it. 3 GB download, and if I was paying this much for free LibreOffice, I would never use it, it is too slow. 2. Inkscape (free, open source, with commercial and non-commercial plugins included) — does PDF editing as well as PDF filling, is cross-platform, simple to use, free updates. I don't use it at all because it doesn't support PDF text. 3. Pages (not the web app, the desktop app, I'm trying to say it is a PDF editor). Free 4. Paper PDF.it — free, has a perfect online image editor (but not that good for documents) and if you need a cross-platform PDF toolkit, does PDF editing and can fill PDF documents well enough. 5. Popper.mob — free, has some very good feature, is cross-platform, and it can fill PDFs quite well if you.
